About Fables

We make stories that know your kid by name.

A small team of parents and storytellers, with years between us at Disney and Stanford. We built this for our own kids first.

Our parents don't speak a drop of English.

They spent years and savings on tutors, books, and patient evenings sounding out words alongside us. They didn't understand the stories themselves — they understood that reading was the way in. They were right: research shows children read to from birth know about 3,000 more words by third grade than children who weren't.

That's a lot of catching up to do. And it's not just about vocabulary — early reading is how kids learn virtues, build attention, and bond with the adults reading to them. Many parents know this. Most parents struggle to make it stick. So did we, when our own kid arrived.

We started Fables because the bookshelf in our living room had a hundred books and not one of them was about our kid. Not one carried our family's languages, our siblings' jokes, the dragon she made up at breakfast. The story she needs is the one she's the hero of — and that story doesn't exist yet, because no publisher could write a book for one kid.

Now AI can. So Fables does.

Who we are

A small founder team. Years between us at Disney and Stanford working on stories, learning, and the technology of attention. We're also parents — which is why this product reads like a parent built it.

Our promises

Four things we will not compromise.

  • Free reading, always.

The library never goes behind a paywall.

  • Your kid is the hero.

With siblings, pets, the friend down the road, and the imaginary dragon — all of them remembered between stories.

  • Age-appropriate by default.

Every page is screened for the active reader profile before it renders. Sensitivities you set are respected.

  • No engagement traps.

    Stories end. Then it's bedtime.

Why now

Reading levels are dropping. Screen time is rising. The space between a parent's good intent and a child's nightly story has gotten harder to cross. Personalisation done well — your kid, in their language, at their level, with their favourites — is the smallest, most consequential intervention we know how to make.
